Of course, not long after I posted that last entry the pneumatic drills started up again. And about an hour later, a circular about the building work arrived from the Administrator, containing this paragraph:
Noise Levels

The very loud and annoying hammering and vibration noise will finish 
this Friday evening.
Wrong. Friday was when they had to finish demolishing the basement in order to make way for the next lot who are sinking piles — but now we discover there's lots of above-ground work still to do. Today they have apparently started knocking down a stairwell.

ETA at just before 2pm: we've just been sent home because of the noise.

(PS no offence intended to burr86 by the subject line, obviously. <g>)
