My brain isn't what it once was

So the US qualifier for the WPC has been and gone (though I'll probably keep the puzzles for a bit longer and do some more of them).

There was mild panic about 15 minutes before the start when I discovered that (a) my new printer cartridge from Tesco didn't seem capable of printing any yellow (though fortunately it didn't make much difference to the puzzle sheets), and (b) my copy of Acrobat Reader generated invalid PostScript when trying to test-print the instructions (fortunately xpdf worked fine).

It shouldn't have taken me three attempts to solve the Battleships puzzle (Q1) and I spent far too long attempting the big Sudoku (Q18) which in the end I didn't finish until well after the closing time. In the end I submitted answers to questions 1, 2, 7 and 14, worth a somewhat unimpressive 55 points. But I fluffed the "Welcome to Bulgaria" question by not spotting that one of my pairs was in fact not identical, thus reducing my score to a lamentable 35. bopeepsheep did somewhat better than I, but suffice it to say that neither of us is likely to be invited to be on a team.

I've subsequently discovered that Septoku (Q5) isn't as hard as I thought it might be, so I should have tried that one. I've also done Pentomino Puddles (Q3), which I originally abandoned after about five minutes (though I had done the lower-right shape correctly as it turns out) and Benign Crisscross (Q6) which I didn't even look at yesterday.

[e: I might add that this is the first one of these I've done, and I didn't do the practice test either. I seem to remember I looked at the puzzles from a similar contest, oh, a couple of years ago. I'm very slow at Sudoku because I don't do them very often — I probably haven't done more than a dozen, ever.]
