What book(s) are you reading, currently?
Hmm. I still haven't finished You're Pregnant Too, Mate because a while ago I stopped at the chapter on labour, and though I did manage to get through that bit before it happened I didn't actually get to the end of the book. When I resumed that I interrupted What Are Hyenas Laughing At, Anyway? and haven't got back to it yet.
What music is playing? What other sounds can you hear?
No music, but the telly is on (Paramount - some Carry On film that I'm not paying any attention to). A fan. Two computers.
Look at the screen in front of you. What apps have you got open? What's running in the background?
[Define `background' - would you like the complete `ps' output?]
Open:
Main desktop: Mozilla, Licq, tkirc, procmeter [CPU meter], about four local xterms and two on the server (screenshot [50% of true size]). Note for web authors: just because my screen is 800x600 [ancient laptop] does not mean that's the size of my web browser.
Desktop south of main: an xterm with a root shell.
Desktop east of main: mutt and a vnc session to my office machine.
vnc session: biff, four xterms (two of them on remote machines), reqtail [tails the request log], THE [text editor]
Iconised:
Main: three THE editors, two xterms, j-pilot [palm pilot `desktop' program]
South: Mozilla [which I use if I absolutely have to have JavaScript and other nasties turned on]
vnc: two local xterms and a couple of remote ones.
What was the last thing you ate? Drank?
Sausages and mash. Ribena.
What are you wearing?
Green t-shirt, navy trousers, pants, socks, slippers.
Where are you? At work, at home? What room are you in?
In the living room at home.
What are you meant to be doing?
Looking after the baby (I'm on paternity leave). However, he is being admirably catered for by his mum right now, so: nothing. Or possibly sleeping.
Sniff! Sniff! What can you smell?
Um, not a lot. I'm sitting next to the infant carrier which used to smell of grape soda, but that seems to have worn off now. If I smell my hands I can smell massage oil.
Who was the last person you spoke to in person? On the phone? Online? How long ago was it?
In person: bopeepsheep
What's the last thing you bought in a shop? Over the interweb?
In a shop: various sundry items from Tesco (the last thing I put in the basket was a box of 4 Cornettos). Interweb - if that's a silly name for the worldwide web then [checks credit card statement] a software registration for PregAsst [Palm software which we ended up not needing], and before that car insurance [although I hate their TV ads, elephant.co.uk did actually produce the cheapest quote].
Are you feeling ill or achy or otherwise not well?
No, don't think so (though still a bit warm).
Are you wearing any jewellery? A watch? Hair things? Makeup? Something else that is not clothes?
Not wearing my watch at this precise moment. Engagement ring and wedding ring, and that would be about all.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Pretty much. I did have a baby on my lap at one point, but he's gone back to bed again now.
Which is where I am going too.
